The 12th Annual Senior Clean-Up Day is on Saturday, October 29th. Volunteers are needed to rake and pick up leaves for Seniors and those with disabilities in the Bemidji area. Sign up to volunteer before October 14th, and receive a free long sleeve t-shirt. Senior Community Clean-Up Day is organized by Northwoods Caregivers.
The idea of Northwoods Caregivers was introduced to the area after three separate surveys identified a gap in services to the elderly and people with special needs. Transportation was identified as the largest need. In 1998, area congregations and human service agencies came together to form Northwoods Caregivers. Since then, the program has provided more than 10,000 hours of direct service each year. It is supported by 20 member congregations in Laporte, Kelliher, Northome, Mizpah, Waskish, Blackduck and Bemidji,
A large population of senior and special needs individuals greatly depend upon Northwoods Caregivers and other community services and resources. As this community continues to grow in size and number, Northwoods Caregivers has also adapted and expanded its services to include Respite Care, Homemaking and Shopping Assistance.
Along with the addition of these services over the years, Transportation services continue to remain a top priority for Northwoods Caregivers. Within the past several months alone, volunteers reported nearly 7,000 miles of transportation services and over 470 hours on the road. But more volunteers are needed. As a Northwoods Caregiver volunteer, you are connecting, enriching and empowering the lives of the elderly and those with special needs. Think about becoming a volunteer today!
- Currently they are in most need of “On Call Transportation” Volunteers. All volunteers receive mileage reimbursement and are covered under the program’s liability insurance.
- Other volunteers are needed for grocery shopping assistance and friendly visiting to seniors and others living with a disability.
- Volunteers are also needed for the Senior Community Clean-up day on October 29th. Activities include raking and picking up leaves for seniors and people with disabilities. There will be a free continental breakfast and complimentary lunch. Sign up before October 14th and receive a free long sleeve t-shirt.
